Washington, July 8:US President Donald Trump announced that the tentative truce with Iran has collapsed, stating that the United States will no longer participate in the interim peace framework. Speaking during a press conference at the NATO summit in Ankara, Trump asserted that continuing the bilateral diplomatic process would be a poor use of administrative resources. The declaration follows a sudden escalation in hostilities, marked by heavy American air strikes launched after maritime regional conflicts.
The president expressed severe frustration with the diplomatic track, describing the political leadership in Tehran as fundamentally unreliable.
“To me, I think it’s over. I don’t want to deal with them anymore. They’re scum… They’re led by sick people… I’ll speak to our negotiators. They want to negotiate — they’re good people… but they have to come back to me. As far as I’m concerned, it’s just a waste of time dealing with them.”
Trump maintained that domestic actions by the Iranian authorities further invalidated their standing as diplomatic partners.
“They’re liars, they’re cheats, they’re sick people. They’ve hurt their people. They killed 54,000 people — as of now — who were protesting. You know, when people say how come they haven’t taken over? They can’t take over because they’re dead.”
The collapse of the agreement was cemented by overnight military action after a series of maritime security incidents. The president declared that defensive operations were necessary after commercial shipping lanes were targeted.
“We attacked, very powerfully, last night, the very dangerous people from Iran… There’s something wrong with them. We say, ‘Go and do your funeral stuff,’ and instead of that, they started shooting rockets at ships yesterday. So we hit them very hard last night.”
American defense authorities stated that the retaliatory measures were a direct consequence of hostile behavior directed at international commerce in the Strait of Hormuz. The U.S. Central Command asserted that the actions of the Iranian forces represented a major breach of prior commitments.
“Strikes are in response to Iranian attacks on three commercial vessels that were transiting the Strait of Hormuz. Iran’s demonstrated aggression was unwarranted, dangerous, and a clear violation of the ceasefire.”
The diplomatic breakdown occurred against a backdrop of long-standing friction regarding prior commitments. Before the American announcement, Iran’s top negotiator and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf pushed back against the stance taken by Washington, stating that numerous bilateral agreements had been repeatedly broken by the United States.
