Court Penalises Fraudster Over Sophisticated Visa Exploitation Network

by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, July 12: A multi-year investigation into a major Saskatchewan visa scam has concluded with the sentencing of Saskatoon resident Balvir Singh, who faced penalties for manufacturing fraudulent employment records to secure illegal entry for foreign nationals. The Saskatoon Court of King’s Bench handed down a two-year conditional sentence alongside a $10,000 fine and 40 hours of community service.

The enforcement sweep targeted an organized document ring that targeted vulnerable individuals seeking a better future in Canada. Investigators established that the operation routinely collected up to $40,000 from individual applicants to secure fraudulent documentation. This documentation consisted of entirely fabricated job offers and false salary slips tied to non-existent Canadian businesses. Several foreign nationals who entered the country via this network were subsequently tracked down by field agents while performing unauthorized work in local restaurants, delivery services, and construction sites.

The entire operation began unraveling in 2018 after an unexpected spike in visa submissions connected to a local non-profit group aroused the suspicion of border personnel. A major break in the case occurred in June 2021 when a thorough search of a local residence and an associated restaurant property allowed investigators to seize vast amounts of electronic records. The evidence resulted in sequential criminal filings spanning two years, culminating in a formal confession from the accused on April 2.

“This successful conviction is the result of an extensive investigation by Canada Border Services Agency criminal investigators in Saskatchewan,” Janelle Bell-Boychuk, the regional director general for the CBSA prairie region, declared. “This sentence sends a strong message against organized criminals who abuse the immigration system.”
