NOIDA, July 15 — Two residents lost their lives due to severe smoke inhalation after a fire broke out in a multi-storey residential complex in Sector 66 on Wednesday. The incident occurred in a densely occupied tenant building, prompting an immediate deployment of emergency response units and local rescue teams. Law enforcement officials have taken the owner of the property into custody as investigations begin into compliance with urban safety regulations.
The emergency response successfully evacuated nearly 50 residents from the building using high-reach hydraulic platforms and specialized fire suppression equipment. Medical teams transferred two severely affected individuals to the district hospital, where physicians declared them dead upon arrival. Authorities noted that pre-existing health vulnerabilities made the two victims highly susceptible to the thick, toxic smoke generated by the burning vehicles.
The fire spread rapidly due to the configuration of the ground-floor parking zone. A senior district officer declared that a fire broke out in an electric scooter that was plugged in for charging and spread to several other vehicles parked nearby. Joint Commissioner of Police Rajiv Mishra asserted that initial investigations indicate the blaze was triggered by an electric two-wheeler that was being charged on the premises. He stated that the fire quickly intensified after spreading to nearby petrol-powered scooters and motorcycles parked inside the building.
The local administration is conducting a full forensic review of the property’s electrical wiring and structural safety features. Forensic teams are examining the specific charging point used by the vehicle to determine if a power surge or faulty equipment initiated the disaster. The district magistrate has directed all local police stations to verify the safety protocols of similar high-density rental properties in the area to prevent future charging-related incidents.
