Nawanshahr, August 4: A premature infant born weighing 700 grams in Nawanshahr successfully recovered after undergoing 50 days of specialized neonatal treatment funded through the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana.
The newborn, delivered at 27 weeks to a family from Shiv Shankar Mohalla, required immediate admission to a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit due to severe pulmonary complications. The medical expenses, totaling nearly three lakh rupees, were fully covered without out-of-pocket costs to the family.
Detailing the broader reach of state health programs, Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh stated, “The case also reflects the growing use of the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana for treating high-risk mothers and newborns across Punjab.”
The treating team led by Dr Hartesh S. Pahwa sustained round-the-clock observation, advanced neonatal therapies, and strict infection control to stabilize the infant’s condition before approving her discharge.
Acknowledging the state’s assistance, the child’s father Suraj declared, “There were times when we feared we would lose our daughter.” He added that the medical scheme enabled the family to prioritize recovery rather than financial arrangements.
According to figures from the State Health Agency, the health initiative has extended coverage to 474 high-risk maternal cases alongside thousands of specialized neonatal treatment claims across the state.
