Chandigarh, August 5: Finance Minister Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema declared on Tuesday that the Punjab government remains focused on resolving legacy employee financial liabilities in a transparent manner.
Presenting details at a press conference, the Finance Minister affirmed that despite taking over a massive financial backlog left by past SAD-BJP and Congress governments, the present administration has successfully released over 6,000 crore rupees to state workers through a High Court-approved roadmap.
The origin of the pending 14,191 crore rupee liability dates back to 2016 recommendations that were delayed until mid-2021, leaving the resulting accumulation to be handled by the current government. Minister Cheema stated that state pay structures compare very favorably with central government levels, offering superior basic pay across multiple post categories.
Regarding a recent single-bench court judgment on allowance disbursements, the Finance Minister indicated that judicial precedents and constitutional aspects are being thoroughly analyzed by legal teams to decide on future filings. He declared that all legally established worker dues will be honored as the government navigates inherited fiscal challenges.
