Chandigarh, August 5: During legislative proceedings in Chandigarh, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann addressed the assembly on the ongoing nationwide transition to E-20 ethanol-blended petrol, advocating for measures that safeguard the financial interests of vehicle owners. The Assembly subsequently approved a resolution calling upon the Central Government to consider providing both ethanol-blended and conventional fuel choices at retail outlets. Chief Minister Mann asserted that policy implementation schedules should ideally align with vehicle manufacturing standards and scientific verification to ensure smooth adoption across all vehicle categories.

Reviewing the impact on commuters, Chief Minister Mann noted that data regarding fuel efficiency changes ought to be reviewed thoroughly. “The Central Government itself has admitted in Parliament that E20 petrol reduces vehicle mileage,” Chief Minister Mann asserted, adding that consumers ought to be extended the liberty of selecting their preferred fuel variant. The Chief Minister declared that formal communications detailing the assembly resolution have been forwarded to the Union Government, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, and related departments to encourage a constructive dialogue focused on public welfare and pricing adjustments.
