NEW DELHI, AUGUST 10: Official statistics indicate that rural work output fell sharply in July following the launch of the Viksit Bharat–Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin), which replaced the long-standing Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.
Official figures published as of August 9 show that 7.67 crore person-days were logged under VB-G RAM G in July 2026, registering a 49.94 percent reduction compared to the 15.33 crore person-days completed in July 2025.
Household participation fell to 68.94 lakh during the month, representing a 51.45 percent drop from the 1.42 crore households recorded in the previous year’s comparative period. The contraction occurred despite widespread rainfall deficits reported across several farming regions.
Addressing the performance metrics, the Rural Development Ministry declared, “The transition process remained seamless and over 98 percent of households seeking work were successfully provided employment offers.”
Government representatives asserted that women workers contributed 63 percent of the total person-days generated during the initial implementation phase.
The revamped framework expanded statutory entitlements from 100 to 125 days of guaranteed wage work annually, while granting state authorities discretion to halt scheme activities for up to 60 days during peak agricultural sowing and harvesting seasons. Funding for the 2026-27 fiscal year was fixed at ₹95,692 crore.
