CHANDIGARH, AUGUST 12: United Kingdom Member of Parliament and Chairman of the UK Parliamentary Defence Committee, Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi, held extensive discussions with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to address key priorities concerning the state’s growth and the global Punjabi diaspora.
Speaking after the official interaction at the Punjab Legislative Assembly, Dhesi affirmed the necessity of establishing time-bound mechanisms to resolve property and land disputes involving overseas Punjabis. He maintained that fast-tracking legal and administrative remedies would offer substantial relief to non-resident Indians and protect their assets in the state.
Focusing on transportation and commercial expansion, the visiting leader declared that international airports in Amritsar and Chandigarh should be leveraged as central aviation hubs for Northern India. He asserted that increasing direct flights connecting major British hubs like London and Birmingham with Punjab would provide a major impetus to trade, industry, and tourism.
Dhesi also maintained that coordinated joint efforts among international security agencies in India, the UK, Canada, Australia, and the US are imperative to eliminate extortion threats against entrepreneurs and sports promoters. Additionally, both leaders exchanged views on utilizing the Sri Kartarpur Sahib Corridor to foster regional stability.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann accorded a warm welcome to the UK lawmaker during the legislative session and appreciated his ongoing efforts to raise diaspora issues on global platforms. SGPC Member Parmjeet Singh Raipur was also present during the deliberation.
