Nanded, August 13: A security operative and Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal both sustained injuries during an unexpected assault on the outskirts of Nanded on Thursday. Medical personnel at a private hospital in Nanded are currently treating Badal, who received stitches for a hand wound sustained during the encounter.
The confrontation took place shortly after the former Deputy Chief Minister completed prayers at Takht Sri Hazur Sahib alongside his wife, MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal. Preliminary updates confirm that a Nihang Sikh allegedly approached the politician with a kirpan before being apprehended at the scene.
“Sukhbir Badal is stable and undergoing routine treatment for the injury,” party representatives affirmed shortly after he was admitted to the healthcare facility.
Visuals recorded immediately following the event depicted Badal upright and moving, carrying his right hand wrapped in a saffron cloth. Police officials quickly detained the suspect on-site, securing the area to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the security lapse.
This event follows an earlier incident in Amritsar in December 2024, when Badal was targeted while performing religious duties as a sewadar at the Golden Temple, though he escaped that attempt without injury.
