Mohali, August 17: The state government marked Independence Day by recognizing the efforts of Village Defence Committees (VDCs) and Ward Defence Committees (WDCs) involved in the ‘Yudh Nashean Virudh’ movement.
Deputy Commissioners across all 23 districts were directed to identify outstanding local representatives and community leaders who have actively assisted public administration and law enforcement in tackling drug abuse at the neighborhood level.
“The recognition serves as an important platform for those working at the community level to make Punjab a drug-free state,” stated official sources overseeing the statewide honors.
The recognition initiative launches an intensive feedback cycle running from August 16 to August 31, designed to translate local insights into actionable administrative reviews.
“From August 16 to 25, VDC meetings will be held in every village,” asserted campaign representatives, explaining that committee members will review past complaints, monitor police action on reported cases, and gather updated ground reports.
Between August 26 and 29, Cabinet Ministers will convene district-wide assessments alongside administration, health, and police departments. The entire process will conclude at the end of the month with a comprehensive state-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to outline the next operational phase.
