Tarn Taran, August 18: Law enforcement authorities in Chabal registered a case under multiple statutory provisions following a violent confrontation with an alleged drug dealer in Jagatpura village. The action follows an incident where a suspect attempted to resist arrest near a local educational institution.

Sub-Inspector Jugraj Singh, SHO, Chabal, affirmed that police personnel acted in self-defence when targeted during the operation. The officer stated that the injured suspect, who managed to escape the immediate vicinity after being hit in retaliatory fire, was later located and admitted to a medical facility for care.

The incident unfolded near the government primary school, where an arresting team had targeted Gurpinder Singh, alias Pindu, a resident of Emma Kalan.

Upon being encircled by the police party, the suspect threw chilli powder into the eyes of the officers and discharged a firearm to clear an escape route. The police force responded with firing, injuring the suspect before he fled the immediate area.

The Chabal police registered a comprehensive case under Sections 109, 132, and 221 of the BNS, Sections 21, 61, and 85 of the NDPS Act, and Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act.
