Chandigarh, August 26: The UT Advisory Standing Committee on Law and Order has reviewed an extensive roadmap to modernize policing infrastructure in Chandigarh through predictive analytics, social research, and expanded public surveillance. Under the proposed plan, Chandigarh Police will integrate over 2,000 advanced AI-enabled cameras into the city network, equipping law enforcement with automated vehicle and person identification systems.
Chairing the review meeting at Police Headquarters, Rajya Sabha MP Satnam Singh Sandhu declared that technology must guide decisions while social intervention complements law enforcement. He asserted that combining advanced artificial intelligence tools with real-time data processing will transform Chandigarh into a safer, highly responsive urban environment. He declared that the administration aims to build an integrated policing framework capable of serving as a model for the entire nation.
The committee highlighted plans to partner with Panjab University for a dedicated Centre of Excellence, offering structured research and internship programs for law students while analyzing the root causes of repeat offending. Additionally, officials outlined an updated regulatory framework to curb immigration fraud by bringing study consultants under formal authorization and structured monitoring mechanisms.
Addressing broader public safety parameters, police officials presented updates on cybercrime outreach, drug enforcement, and enhanced inter-state coordination across Chandigarh, Mohali, and Panchkula. The panel concluded by calling for data-driven road safety measures and multi-departmental rehabilitation programs targeting vulnerable juveniles to complement ongoing enforcement efforts.
