NEW DELHI: A major search operation in South Delhi’s Satya Niketan neighborhood has concluded its primary phase after six fatalities were confirmed and eleven survivors were successfully recovered from a collapsed student residence. Emergency teams remained at the site on Monday morning to ensure all sections of the damaged area were thoroughly cleared.
The collapse occurred on Sunday afternoon when a nearly five-decade-old residential facility housing male students gave way in the congested district near South Campus. Search personnel worked through the night and into Monday to navigate the collapsed concrete and debris.
Civic agencies have moved swiftly to safeguard adjacent structures in the high-density lane. Structural engineers installed temporary iron jack supports at Buildings 12 and 13, securing their load-bearing walls against settlement risks triggered by the adjacent collapse.
Official notices were delivered to four adjoining properties by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to ensure immediate safety compliance. Key administrative figures, including Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, MCD Commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar, and MLA Anil Sharma, inspected the scene on Monday morning to review the progress of relief measures.
