Lucknow, Sept 16: A planned expansion of domestic solar infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh has transformed the state’s residential energy landscape, powering over 8.25 lakh homes through the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. The total installed capacity of 2,769.59 MW now generates clean electricity worth an estimated Rs 8.10 crore daily.
The financial relief provided by the scheme enabled more than 1.25 lakh consumers to achieve zero or negative monthly electricity balances, allowing surplus generation to be credited toward future billing cycles. Combined subsidy disbursements from the Central and State governments exceeded Rs 7,300 crore, making installation accessible across diverse income groups.
The state government’s rooftop-focused model saved approximately 10,617 acres of land that would otherwise be required for traditional ground-mounted solar installations. Furthermore, the robust infrastructure setup generated steady demand for skilled workforce roles, supported by a growing network of 7,750 registered solar vendors.
Officials declared that early application remains essential for consumers seeking to maximize financial subsidies before the program closes on March 31, 2027. State representatives asserted that timely enrollment ensures faster grid integration, immediate bill reductions, and long-term energy savings for households.
