CHANDIGARH: The Aam Aadmi Party criticized senior opposition figures for supporting an individual who faces nine FIRs across various police stations, including serious offenses under the NDPS Act. Speaking to the media, AAP Punjab President and Cabinet Minister Aman Arora maintained that the Bhagwant Mann government remains steadfast in its mission to make the state drug-free, contrasting its efforts with past administrations that allegedly protected illicit trade networks for financial gains.
Aman Arora explained that in Namol village, both elected panchayats alongside local committees had formally decided to enforce a strict boycott of drug sellers and organize community patrols. He stated that the individual in question attempted to pressure local elected representatives following minor altercations and subsequently consumed a harmful substance outside administrative offices. The Minister declared that political leaders from the Congress, BJP, and Akali Dal quickly posted statements supporting the individual without acknowledging his prior convictions in four criminal cases.
Cabinet Ministers Harpal Singh Cheema, Ravjot Singh, and Hardeep Singh Mundian also affirmed that the administration’s campaign has empowered village defence committees across the state. They maintained that the opposition’s reaction stems from discomfort over the government’s strict policy against drug peddlers, reiterating that political leaders should avoid undermining community efforts aimed at eradicating the drug menace.
