NEW DELHI/CHANDIGARH, OCT 2 — The Congress high command has initiated high-level consultations to select the next president of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, with outgoing chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring arriving in the capital for discussions with party leader Rahul Gandhi.
The meeting comes as the party prepares to restructure its organizational leadership in the state. Warring, who continues to hold the confidence of the central leadership, is anticipated to play an influential role in identifying his successor during the deliberations. Organizational sources maintained that Warring’s contributions would continue to be utilized in key administrative capacities going forward.
The strategy behind the incoming leadership involves a potential shift toward a Hindu leader to head the state branch. Senior party figures, including Vijay Inder Singla and former Assembly Speaker Rana KP Singh, are among those being evaluated for the leadership post.
Party President Mallikarjun Kharge, along with Rahul Gandhi and Punjab affairs in-charge Sachin Pilot, will gather later in the day to finalize the appointment and formalize the transition for the Punjab unit.
