LUCKNOW — Stressing its commitment to social welfare and administrative transparency, the Uttar Pradesh administration has crossed a major milestone under the Marriage Grant Scheme, receiving over 1.09 lakh applications from economically disadvantaged OBC families in FY 2026-27.

Designed to alleviate the sudden financial burden that weddings often impose on low-income and rural households, the scheme delivers a fixed monetary grant of ₹20,000 directly into the bank accounts of approved applicants. The government has already met over half of its annual target of ₹210 crore, disbursing ₹107.092 crore to 53,546 verified beneficiaries within the stipulated timeline.

To ensure that state support reaches those facing the greatest hardship, priority processing is integrated for special categories, including widows, families affected by natural calamities, and landless households. Expressing the department’s strategy, Backward Class Welfare Director Asmita Lal reaffirmed that the state administration is moving swiftly to process remaining applications, aiming to cover the full target of 1.05 lakh beneficiaries before the end of the fiscal year while maintaining strict oversight and direct payment mechanisms.
