Centre Must Target Drug Manufacturing Hubs Instead of Playing Politics: Harpal Singh Cheema

by TheReportingTimes

CHANDIGARH — Launching a sharp critique against central oversight on drug trafficking, Punjab Minister Harpal Singh Cheema stated that the Union Government must account for its inaction against pharmaceutical units producing synthetic intoxicants. Speaking to reporters, Cheema emphasized that zero manufacturing of these specific prescription medicines occurs within Punjab, pointing instead to production facilities located in neighboring states.

The AAP leader questioned why central ministries have delayed action on formal communications sent by Punjab’s health authorities seeking stricter legal classifications under the NDPS framework. Addressing border security challenges, Cheema remarked that while the state government continues its relentless ‘Yudh Nashean Virudh’ campaign and absorbs the financial burden of deploying advanced border technologies, the Centre must step up coordination to dismantle interstate networks and support local enforcement initiatives.
