Chandigarh, Nov 6: Farmers across Punjab looking to boost profit margins are finding a lucrative diversification option in Lilium, a high-value ornamental flower crop celebrated for its fragrance and aesthetic appeal. Experts from the Department of Floriculture and Landscaping at Punjab Agricultural University affirmed that the rising demand in domestic and export markets renders it a highly promising enterprise for progressive growers utilizing protected cultivation systems.

PAU scientists Dr Ranjit Singh and Dr Tanya Thakur declared that Lilium enjoys global demand as both a cut flower and a decorative pot plant. They maintained that LA hybrids exhibit superior performance in local subtropical conditions owing to their robust bloom colors, pleasing fragrance, and vibrant visual appeal.

Optimal crop success is achievable through naturally ventilated polyhouse setups. PAU experts noted that proper post-harvest handling, incorporating preservative solution treatments and low-temperature storage, effectively extends the flower’s vase life up to two weeks to aid longer supply chains.
