Highway Collision: Two Killed, Child, Driver Injured

Kapurthala, December 30, 2024: A fatal collision between a speeding car and an e-rickshaw on the Jalandhar-Amritsar National Highway in Kapurthala claimed the lives of two women on Monday. The victims, identified as Neelam Kumari (30) and Seema Rani (27), were sisters-in-law from Guru Ravidas Nagar, Jalandhar.

A five-year-old boy, Navjot Singh, and the e-rickshaw driver, Jatinder Singh, were also seriously injured in the accident. Both were rushed to Kapurthala Civil Hospital before being referred to a higher medical facility due to the severity of their injuries.

Police Launch Investigation

Subhanpur police have seized the car involved in the accident and registered a case against its driver, Jagjit Singh, alias Jagga, who fled the scene. Investigating officer ASI Kulwinder Singh confirmed that an FIR has been filed under multiple sections.

“We have taken possession of the vehicle and are actively working to apprehend the accused driver,” ASI Singh stated.

Tragic Sequence of Events

The accident occurred when the car, reportedly traveling at high speed, struck the e-rickshaw, leading to the deaths of the two women and injuries to the child and driver.

Based on a statement from Malkit Singh, husband of one of the deceased, police have launched further inquiries to determine the full circumstances of the incident.
