CHANDIGARH: Early-morning rains lashed the Tricity on Friday, delivering 99 mm of heavy rainfall in Panchkula alongside steady moderate showers across Chandigarh and Mohali. According to data released by the India Meteorological Department, the thunder-accompanied spell began around 4 AM and lasted for roughly two hours before subsiding into overcast conditions. While Panchkula saw the heaviest downpour in the dual-state belt, Chandigarh recorded 31.8 mm and Mohali received 16 mm during the same period.
The rain brought immediate relief from humid conditions, pushing minimum temperatures below normal marks across all three contiguous cities. Chandigarh registered the lowest night temperature in the region at 22.8°C, dropping 2.5°C below normal levels. Mohali and Panchkula recorded minimum readings of 23.9°C and 24.2°C respectively. Weather officials stated that suppressed daytime temperatures will continue to provide relief across the urban belt over the coming days.
The latest weather bulletin confirms that Friday’s 31.8 mm spell in Chandigarh has significantly reduced the city’s seasonal rainfall deficit built up over previous weeks. The IMD has extended a yellow warning for isolated heavy rain and thunderstorms across Haryana and Chandigarh covering Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Forecasting personnel maintained that extended rain activity will remain active across the territory, maintaining lower ambient temperatures through the early part of the week.
