Panchkula, April 30: In a disturbing incident of street violence, a 30-year-old Manimajra resident and his cousin were viciously assaulted near a liquor shop in Mansa Devi Complex (MDC), Sector 5, late Sunday evening.

The victims—Karan Dhiman, an employee of the Haryana Kaushal Rozgar Nigam, and his cousin Amit Dhiman—were beaten with baseball bats and repeatedly punched and kicked, according to police.

The altercation erupted around 9:40 p.m. while the cousins stood in the parking lot near the liquor vend.

“A car nearby tossed an empty bottle, and it shattered close to where I was standing,” Karan told police.

“I objected, and although the driver apologized, another man from the group suddenly grabbed my collar and started hitting me.”

Moments later, Karan said, a second man stepped out from the rear seat of the vehicle and struck him repeatedly with a baseball bat, targeting his back, arms and legs.

When Amit tried to shield him, the attackers turned on him as well.

“They called over two more men, and all of them began kicking and punching us,” he added.

The violence escalated further when Karan tried to document the attack.

“I took out my phone to record what was happening, but they snatched it and threw it away,” he reported.

The suspects, believed to be five in total, fled the scene in a Chandigarh-registered vehicle after threatening the cousins with retaliation if they went to the authorities.

On Monday, the MDC police registered a case under Sections 115, 3(5), and 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and have begun efforts to identify and apprehend the attackers.

Police described the victims as “battered and bleeding” following the assault.

They were continuing treatment for multiple injuries, while officers reviewed CCTV footage and interviewed witnesses in the area.
