New Delhi, May 12: In a nationally televised address on Monday evening, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared that “Operation Sindoor” has marked a turning point in India’s counter-terrorism doctrine, asserting that terrorists now “know the cost of touching the sindoor of our daughters.”
Referring to the Pahalgam massacre of April 22 as a barbaric and faith-targeted attack, Modi said, “The terrorists forced innocent civilians to reveal their faith and killed them in front of their families and children. It was not just an act of terror, but an attack on India’s harmony.”
The Prime Minister said the entire nation stood united in its grief and resolve. “Every Indian – across regions, religions, and political lines – demanded strong action. We gave our armed forces a free hand. And they delivered.”
Calling Operation Sindoor a “new normal” in India’s anti-terror policy, Modi said the offensive—carried out on May 6 and 7—had sent a clear signal to both terrorists and their sponsors. “This operation is not just a military name. It is the emotion of every Indian, the pledge of justice for every daughter,” he said.
‘Terror Hubs Razed, Pakistan Exposed’
Modi detailed the scope of India’s military response, which included missile and drone strikes on terror hideouts and training camps deep inside Pakistan. “Places like Bahawalpur and Muridke, long known as breeding grounds of global terror, were shattered,” he said. “Over 100 terrorists, including senior handlers, were eliminated. Their bases were reduced to rubble.”
He added: “These were the same centers linked to the 9/11 attacks in the U.S., the London Tube blasts, and countless attacks in India. This time, they paid the price.”
As Pakistan retaliated with cross-border strikes targeting schools, temples, and military posts, Modi noted, “Their missiles and drones crumbled like straw. India’s air defense systems intercepted them in the sky. They tried to strike our borders—India hit their core.”
‘Pakistan Seeks Relief After Heavy Losses’
Modi revealed that Pakistan, after suffering extensive damage, contacted India’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) on May 10. “They promised to cease terrorist activities and aggression. Only then did we decide to temporarily pause our operations,” he said, warning that the suspension was not an end but a watchful pause.
‘New Security Doctrine: No Terror-Talk Trade-Off’
Announcing a hardened doctrine, the Prime Minister outlined three guiding principles:
1. Decisive Retaliation – “We will strike back strongly at the roots of terror.”
2. No Nuclear Blackmail – “India won’t be intimidated by nuclear threats.”
3. No Distinction Between Sponsors and Terrorists – “Terrorists and those who shelter them will face the same fate.”
He also cited evidence of Pakistan’s military links to terror, saying, “The world saw Pakistani generals attending funerals of slain terrorists. This is not support—it’s partnership.”
‘Made-in-India Weapons Proved Their Might’
The Prime Minister lauded Indian defense innovation. “This was also a war of technology. And Made-in-India systems led the way. The world has now seen what Indian missiles and drones can achieve.”
‘Terror and Talks Can’t Coexist’
Modi sent a clear message to the global community: “There will be no dialogue with Pakistan unless it is about ending terrorism and reclaiming Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir. Terror and talks can’t go together. Blood and water cannot flow together.”
‘Strength Must Walk with Peace’
On the occasion of Buddha Purnima, Modi ended with a message of resolve and peace. “Lord Buddha taught us that peace must be guided by strength. A Viksit Bharat (developed India) demands security, dignity, and unity. And we will defend it—every time, with full force.”
He closed with a tribute to India’s armed forces: “To every soldier, to every mother, sister, and daughter—Operation Sindoor is your victory. Jai Hind.”
