DHARAMSHALA, May 17: Girls continued their winning streak in the Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education (HPBOSE) Class 12 results, released Saturday, by securing a commanding majority in the merit list. Of the 75 students placed in the top-10 ranks across all streams, 61 are girls while only 14 are boys.
The top honor in the state went to Mehak, a student of St. D R Public Senior Secondary School, Gagret in Una district, who scored 486 out of 500 marks in the science stream—an impressive 97.2 percent.
Khushi of Dhauladhar Public Senior Secondary School, Sham Nagar (Dharamshala) and Jahnavi Thakur of Bharti Vidyapeeth Public Senior Secondary School, Baijnath, both followed closely behind with 483 marks, each scoring 96.6 percent to share the second rank.
In the arts stream, Ankita from Government Senior Secondary School claimed the top spot with 483 marks (96.6 percent). Nirdosh Kumari from New Era School of Sciences, Chhatri in Kangra stood second with 96 percent, while Jyoti Sharma of Government Senior Secondary School, Jalari in Hamirpur took third with 95.8 percent.
Commerce stream results saw Payal Sharma of Government Senior Secondary School, Chanour in Kangra leading with 96.4 percent. Shagun and Ananya Thakur, both from Government Senior Secondary School, Chauki Maniar in Una, followed with 95.6 and 95.4 percent respectively.
“The overall pass percentage has risen significantly this year,” said HPBOSE Chairman and Deputy Commissioner of Kangra, Hemraj Bairwa, while declaring the results at a press conference. “We have seen a jump from 73.76 percent in 2024 to 83.16 percent this year.”
A total of 86,373 students appeared for the Class 12 examinations held between March 4 and March 29 across 2,300 exam centers statewide. Of these, 71,591 students passed, 5,847 were placed in the compartment category, and 8,581 did not clear the exams.
“The results reflect the hard work of both students and teachers,” Bairwa said, adding that the dominance of girls in the merit list is “a matter of pride for the state.”
