Chandigarh, June 16: A strict zero-tolerance enforcement policy continues to govern Punjab’s internal security operations following the recent arrest of an opposition legal advisor in a narcotics case. Punjab Cabinet Minister Harpal Singh Cheema stated that the development exposes a significant shift in the region’s illicit trade dynamics, indicating that individuals embedded within political structures are now directly handling contraband rather than merely providing administrative cover to external syndicates.
The structural impact of the state’s current “Yudh Nashean Virudh” campaign has systematically disrupted long-standing distribution channels. Harpal Singh Cheema noted that hundreds of high-level operators have been intercepted and penalized over the past four years. He affirmed that the Punjab Police operate under explicit directives to enforce the law uniformly, ensuring that no political title, organizational office, or partisan affiliation shields an individual from legal accountability.
The minister also contextualized the regional challenge within a larger domestic trade network, noting that a major portion of illicit substances entering the country moves through logistics channels in western coastal states. He stated that instead of defaming regional governance efforts, national political entities need to explain the recurring multi-ton narcotics discoveries at specific maritime hubs. He asserted that the Punjab government remains fully focused on securing its borders through advanced technological interventions and remains committed to sustaining this enforcement drive until local distribution networks are entirely neutralized.
