New Delhi, Oct 5: India’s largest airline, IndiGo, has announced a hike in airfare levies, requiring travelers to pay up to ₹1,300 extra on domestic flights and up to ₹10,000 on select international destinations starting from Tuesday.
The price recalibration follows a sustained rally in jet fuel prices, which have climbed by more than 14% over the last month to hit multi-year highs. According to updated tariff structures, domestic routes will see tiered surcharges based on flight distance, while international travelers heading to regions such as the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Africa, and Europe will absorb higher operational levies.
Aviation analysts note that this marks the third fuel charge adjustment by the carrier in six months, reflecting continuous cost pressure on the sector. Representatives for the airline stated that while the company strived to absorb a portion of the price hike, a tariff recalibration was unavoidable to maintain service viability.
