AMRITSAR, May 6 — Authorities have launched a high-level investigation into a blast that damaged military property on Khasa Road, as political leaders call for federal intervention in Punjab’s security matters. The explosion occurred near the Army Cantonment wall, just hours after a separate blast was reported at a BSF facility in Jalandhar.
Amritsar MP Gurjit Singh Aujla expressed grave concern over the proximity of the explosions to sensitive military and paramilitary installations. He asserted that the state government has not done enough to protect residents in the border belt. Aujla has formally appealed to Union Home Minister Amit Shah to oversee a thorough and impartial probe into the repeated security breaches.
“The Punjab government led by Bhagwant Singh Mann has completely failed to ensure the safety of the residents,” Aujla stated. He maintained that immediate action is required from the central government to bolster security arrangements in the border state to prevent further destabilization.
On the ground, forensic teams are analyzing the site on Khasa Road to identify the materials used in the blast. While the explosion was described as low-intensity, officials affirmed that the deliberate targeting of the Cantonment wall is being treated with the utmost seriousness. No arrests have been made so far, but local police stated that they are reviewing surveillance footage and conducting a sweep of the surrounding area to trace the suspects’ movements.
