Chandigarh, July 13: Multiple schools, transport hubs, and high-profile political figures became the targets of an coordinated digital threat ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to the region. The electronic warnings, which landed in the inboxes of various educational institutions in Chandigarh and Mohali, have forced regional security agencies into high alert.
The electronic dispatch outlined a multi-layered attack plan across major public spaces on July 17. Investigators declared that “In the email sent to various schools in Mohali and Chandigarh, the email threatened to plant bombs in schools and the Mohali Mayor’s office and to carry out IED blasts at the Jalandhar and Chandigarh railway stations.”
According to intelligence officials, the communication specifically threatened the life of Union Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu and warned local residents to stay away from the Prime Minister’s upcoming development project announcements. The anonymous sender detailed a strict timeline, claiming that school blasts would occur at 1:11 pm and the Mohali Mayor’s office would be hit at 3:11 pm, while also expressing support for artist Diljit Dosanjh.
Local administrators acknowledged that the region has faced a wave of similar digital scares in recent months. Security experts asserted that the emails might be calculated tactics by criminal syndicates to divert police resources, concluding that even though previous threats proved to be hoaxes, every single warning must be treated with absolute seriousness.
