SUNAM, Sangrur, MAY 22 — State media officials shared details Thursday of a critical medical intervention where the Bhagwant Mann administration’s Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana served as a financial lifeline for a family in Sangrur district.

Bhur Kaur, a resident with a long-standing history of hypertension and diabetes, required immediate intensive care when her blood glucose measured 550 mg/dL, causing a complete physical collapse. Her family transported her to a specialized cardiology center in Sunam, where doctors fought to reverse a dangerous downward spiral involving falling oxygen saturation and systematic metabolic failure.

“We were treating breathing failure, infection, and metabolic collapse at the same time,” stated Dr. Anshuman Phull, who supervised the emergency team. He affirmed that the initial stage of clinical management focused exclusively on stabilizing life functions as the patient’s heart became increasingly unstable.

The clinical team stated that the speed of care was greatly enhanced by the state’s healthcare network, which provides cashless coverage for vital treatments. Because the family possessed a valid health card, the facility bypassed standard admission procedures to supply immediate oxygen, fluids, and specialized drug regimes.

“Because the patient was covered under the scheme, ICU care and emergency treatment began immediately,” Dr. Phull noted, pointing out that even a brief delay could have altered the patient’s prognosis.

The patient’s son, Harpal, who serves as a temple priest, described the ordeal as a profound challenge for his family, stating that they relied heavily on administrative support alongside their personal resilience. Following three days of continuous medical support, Kaur transitioned out of immediate danger as her vital signs returned to safe levels.

Speaking from her recovery bed, Kaur acknowledged the gravity of her condition. She stated that while she does not remember the entirety of the incident, she remains highly thankful to the public medical framework for securing her a second chance at life.
