NEW DELHI, AUGUST 14: Central law enforcement agencies successfully brought back key fugitive Virender Singh Basoya alias Viru from the United Arab Emirates to face legal proceedings in New Delhi. The Narcotics Control Bureau formally detained the Sarojini Nagar resident upon his arrival at Indira Gandhi International Airport on Friday morning, concluding an extradition process initiated earlier this year.
The suspect was originally detained by UAE law enforcement in June 2026 after international agencies published an INTERPOL Red Notice based on evidence gathered by Indian investigators.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah asserted that the government maintains a ruthless approach toward dismantling illegal drug operations and tracking down organizers hiding in foreign territories. He declared that law enforcement personnel have once again proven the reach of Indian legal processes through systematic enforcement.
The Minister affirmed that central agencies remain focused on destroying the complete infrastructure supporting illegal narcotics operations.
Ministry of Home Affairs representatives maintained that the operation reflects effective international cooperation and seamless liaison between Indian agencies and UAE law enforcement. Officials affirmed that law enforcement will proceed with detailed investigations into connected domestic and international syndicates.
Investigators declared that the suspect will be produced before designated legal forums as part of ongoing anti-narcotics actions.
