Field entomologists screened thousands of sandflies, mosquitoes, and ticks across affected villages, yet all tested batches have returned negative results so far.
The absence of positive vector samples mirrors challenges faced during the 2024 outbreak, when twenty-eight fatalities occurred among seventy-eight reported cases without a confirmed insect host.
Union Health Ministry authorities stated that definitive conclusions regarding the primary carrier cannot be made until all ongoing laboratory evaluations conclude. Officials maintained that government agencies are providing full technical backing to state diagnostic laboratories.
Investigators are evaluating whether alternative insect vectors, including Aedes aegypti and Culex mosquitoes, alongside ticks and mites, may be contributing to the spread of the virus.
Scientists expanded testing to domestic farm animals, gathering blood and dairy samples from local cattle, buffalo, and goat herds to check for potential reservoir activity. Researchers asserted that identifying reservoir species could explain how the virus persists in environmental niches during non-outbreak periods.
