Chandigarh, July 25: State law enforcement agencies brought back wanted operative Jobanjit Singh, alias Joban Billa, following his deportation from Jakarta, Indonesia. The operation was executed by the Punjab Police Anti-Gangster Task Force, working alongside the specialized Overseas Fugitive Tracking and Extradition Cell and central intelligence divisions.
Law enforcement records identify the Arjan Manga resident as a key associate of the Bambiha gang, linked to severe criminal acts including drug trafficking, illegal firearms possession, and violent extortion schemes.
Reflecting on the law enforcement action, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav asserted that the coordinated initiative successfully dismantled the suspect’s overseas refuge.
“Wanted in multiple heinous criminal cases, including murder, attempt to murder, NDPS Act and Arms Act offences, the accused was evading arrest by operating across multiple countries,” asserted Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav, confirming that the operative faces four separate murder counts in the state.
Investigating teams noted that the accused had managed to conduct criminal affairs remotely from bases in Dubai and other locations to bypass local enforcement. Case files detail a series of extortion demands levied against traders and shopkeepers in rural Amritsar, where the accused and his brother, Gurwinder Singh, allegedly used threats of gunfire to extract funds. The individual is also under investigation for the 2023 murder of Jarnail Singh at Sathiala village and an attack resulting in the death of a 13-year-old.
The physical return was achieved through Operation Nomad Hunt, an intensive six-month endeavor that combined continuous global surveillance with strategic cooperation among domestic and international security partners. Senior officials declared that state forces will maintain rigorous tracking protocols to address foreign-based absconders directing local illegal operations.
