Chandigarh, April 1 — Chandigarh Police suspended senior constable Ajay Kundu after a viral social media reel showed his wife dancing at Sector-20 Gurdwara Chowk, obstructing traffic. The video was recorded by her sister-in-law, officials said.
An FIR was registered under Sections 125, 292, and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for endangering public safety. The incident, which occurred around 4:30 p.m. on March 22, surfaced after the clip gained traction online.
A special informant alerted police stationed near a Sector-33 petrol pump, reporting that the women ignored traffic and pedestrians while filming. CCTV footage from Gurudwara Chowk and the Sector-17 Police Control Room confirmed that traffic had come to a standstill during the recording, police said.
The footage showed a woman in a yellow suit with a yellow-blue dupatta dancing on the road while another, in a light cream-colored printed suit, filmed the act. Following the confirmation, authorities initiated action, leading to Kundu’s suspension.
