Chandigarh lifts earlier curbs

CHANDIGARH, May 10– In the aftermath of recent ceasefire violations reported across parts of Punjab, Rajasthan, and Jammu & Kashmir, the Union Territory Administration has issued a public notice assuring that the situation remains under control and urging citizens not to panic.

“We are watching the evolving situation closely and precautionary measures, if needed, will be taken accordingly. As of now, no restrictions are in place,” the administration stated, aiming to dispel fear while encouraging public awareness.

India and Pakistan reached a ceasefire agreement on Saturday, bringing an end to a four-day exchange of fire that had heightened regional tensions. Following the truce, local authorities in Chandigarh withdrew precautionary restrictions imposed earlier in the day.

“In light of the ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan, the earlier request for the voluntary closure of shops and other establishments is hereby withdrawn. All shops and establishments are now permitted to operate as usual,” read an official order issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Chandigarh.

Earlier, as a precaution, city officials had asked all commercial outlets to voluntarily shut by 9 p.m. and urged residents to remain indoors during the night. These advisories, however, were rolled back once the ceasefire was confirmed and the threat level reduced.

Authorities emphasized that while the current situation is stable, the public should remain watchful. “The public should not panic and ignore rumours but also remain vigilant,” the statement concluded.
