International training programs for teachers drive public school shift past traditional academic benchmarks

CHANDIGARH, JUNE 1 — A strategic initiative to train public school teachers abroad has placed Punjab at the forefront of national education rankings, as the state actively works to transform into a premier academic destination.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann affirmed the success of the state’s ongoing “Sikhya Kranti” during the “Sitaare Zameen Te” ceremony, where he honored high-achieving students from classes 8, 10, and 12. Mann maintained that by sending educators to countries like Finland and Singapore to learn modern methodologies, the state has successfully infused global standards into local classrooms.

“Our teachers are being sent abroad for specialised training where they learn modern teaching practices,” Mann stated. “After returning, they share this knowledge with students and fellow teachers, ensuring that global standards of education reach classrooms across Punjab.”

The policy shift has altered performance metrics across the state. Officials noted that 359 students from government facilities, including the specialized Schools of Eminence, cleared the competitive JEE Main exam this year. According to state reports, these institutions now lead national assessments conducted by NITI Aayog, outperforming historically high-ranking states.

Addressing student mindsets, the Chief Minister urged the youth to remain deeply connected to their roots despite acquiring academic success. He contrasted the current responsive educational climate with previous years, noting that students now possess the confidence to engage directly with top state leadership without hesitation.

Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains cited substantial infrastructure progress during the event, stating that systemic deficits like classroom seating shortages have been fully resolved. Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia also addressed the gathering, declaring that national testing systems must move away from rigid formats to focus heavily on the holistic development and critical thinking abilities of 21st-century learners.
