SURREY, B.C. May 12 — Canadian authorities are investigating a double homicide in Surrey’s Newton district after two young men were found shot to death Sunday evening. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has taken charge of the case, asserting that the killings bear the hallmarks of a targeted attack linked to professional criminal networks.
The shooting occurred around 10 p.m. on May 10 in a residential parking facility. Police discovered the 16 and 18-year-old victims following reports of multiple shots fired in the 133B Street area. Officials stated that the investigation is now focused on potential links to broader gang activity within the province.
“The deaths may be linked to organized criminal activity,” Sergeant Farida Fong stated during a press briefing. She noted that the recovery of a scorched getaway vehicle nearby is a common tactic used in such targeted executions. Investigators affirmed that the burnt-out sedan is being processed for any remaining evidence that could lead to the identification of the shooters.
The incident has sparked renewed alarm over the safety of youth in the region, particularly within the Punjabi community. Mayor Brenda Locke described the violence as deeply troubling for the city. Police have appealed to the public for information, while maintaining that the investigation remains in its preliminary stages with no arrests yet made.
