Panchkula, May 8: Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini successfully mediated a return for former councillor Omwati Poonia into the Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday, ending her short-lived stint as an independent challenger in Ward 12. The Chief Minister, accompanied by State President Mohan Lal Baroli, visited Poonia’s home to bring the veteran leader back into the party ranks following her expulsion earlier this week.

Poonia had been removed from the party’s primary membership on May 3 alongside several other members for working against official candidates. However, following the high-level meeting, she declared her full support for BJP nominee Rakesh Jagota and affirmed that her previous grievances had been addressed.

“I will work with complete loyalty and dedication to ensure the BJP candidate’s victory with a landslide victory,” Poonia stated to her supporters. She maintained that the arrival of the Chief Minister at her residence demonstrated the value the party places on its long-term members.

The Chief Minister affirmed that the party continues to prioritize the dignity of its workers, noting that the BJP is a cohesive unit that grows through mutual respect. He stated that the return of leaders like Poonia strengthens the party’s position across Panchkula’s various wards.

The event concluded with Poonia tying a Rakhi to the Chief Minister, a gesture she affirmed was a sign that she would never leave the party again. Senior officials noted that this strategic move is intended to prevent a split in the party’s traditional vote base. Other prominent figures in attendance included District President Ajay Mittal and Sukhbir Poonia, who was also welcomed back into the organization.
