NEW DELHI, JULY 31: Senior opposition leaders have called for high-level political accountability and administrative review following police action against students protesting the NEET examination paper leak. Speaking on the aftermath of the July 20 demonstrations at Jantar Mantar, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge maintained that law enforcement agencies proceeded with detentions and legal filings despite earlier assurances provided to the demonstrating youth.
Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi asserted that the situation warrants an independent inquiry monitored by the Supreme Court to examine the events thoroughly. Concurrently, opposition members in Parliament voiced concerns regarding administrative transparency and religious trust management in Ayodhya.
“When the students withdrew their movement, now you’re filing FIRs against them out of a sense of revenge, forcibly detaining them,” Kharge declared while commenting on the official response. He stated that “The youth withdrew the movement on the condition that no action would be taken against them, and now your governments have gone back on their own word.”
Kharge further noted that official communication channels required greater openness during parliamentary sessions. “The arrogance is such that Home Minister Amit Shah didn’t even set foot in the Parliament House, kept fearing to give a statement on accountability,” he remarked, adding that “Now these won’t work as Face-Saving, Image Protection tactics anymore; the youth already knows your truth.”
