by TheReportingTimes

Amritsar, November 3 — The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) on Monday re-elected Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami as its president for the fifth consecutive term, reinforcing continuity in the leadership of Sikhism’s top representative religious body.

Dhami secured 117 votes out of 136 polled, comfortably defeating Mithu Singh Kahneke, who received 18 votes. One ballot was declared invalid, officials said.

In addition to Dhami’s victory, the SGPC elected its key office-bearers — Raghujit Singh Virk as senior vice president, Baldev Singh Kalyan as junior vice president, and Sher Singh Mandwala as general secretary.

The committee also finalised its interim executive members, comprising Surjit Singh Garhi, Surjit Singh Tugalwala, Surjit Singh Kang, Gurpreet Singh Jhabbar, Diljeet Singh Bhindar, Harjinder Kaur, Baldev Singh Kaimpuri, Major Singh Dhillon, Mangwinder Singh Khaparkhedi, Jungbahadur Singh Rai, and Mithu Singh Kahneke.

Dhami’s re-election, observers say, signals stability within the SGPC at a time when the organisation faces renewed attention over its administrative and religious roles.
