Authorities reveal gang used fake disabilities and digital decoys to mislead investigators

by TheReportingTimes

FARIDKOT, Feb 21 — Six members of a sophisticated theft gang are in custody after the Faridkot police neutralized an inter-district network specializing in factory and residential robberies. The arrests follow a detailed search operation that led to the recovery of a revolver and a portion of the cash stolen during a recent Jaito-based oil factory robbery.

SSP Dr. Pragya Jain affirmed that the group employed highly specialized tactics to mislead law enforcement. While the women in the gang identified targets during the day, the male members executed the crimes using elaborate ruses. One such tactic involved an accused individual pretending to be disabled while being recorded on security cameras.

“The gang employed highly sophisticated and deceptive tactics to mislead the police,” the SSP declared. Investigators asserted that the suspects intentionally brandished mobile phones to suggest they were active on the network, though the devices were disconnected from cellular service to prevent tracking.

The police tracked the suspects by analyzing a 120-kilometer stretch of surveillance footage, eventually identifying a car previously reported stolen in Ferozepur. Officials declared that the suspects were in the process of organizing a second major theft in Jaito before they were intercepted. The police are now seeking court remand to recover the remaining stolen funds and explore the gang’s involvement in other cold cases across the state.
