DHARAMSALA, MAY 9 — The arrival of the Indian Premier League in the Dhauladhar ranges has triggered a significant economic boost for Dharamsala, ending a recent downturn for local businesses. Officials stated that hotel occupancy in lower sections of the town has already surpassed 90 percent, with upper regions expected to follow as the Punjab Kings begin their home fixtures.

Vinay Dhiman, the District Tourism Development Officer for Kangra, affirmed that tourist footfall is rising rapidly across the region. While the hospitality industry is flourishing, the cost of reaching the destination has reached historic levels. Airfares from Delhi have peaked at ₹24,000, a sharp increase from the standard rates of ₹5,000 to ₹7,000.

Local operators maintained that the limited number of flights into the valley cannot keep pace with the demand generated by the world’s most-watched cricket league. Despite the expense, the opportunity to witness IPL action at one of the world’s most scenic venues has led to packed bookings across all hotel categories. Ashwani Kumar Bamba of the Hotel and Restaurant Association stated that even smaller guesthouses are now witnessing a substantial rise in occupancy.

The district administration and the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association declared that elaborate arrangements for crowd management and parking are in place. These measures are designed to handle the rush for the upcoming games on May 11, 14, and 17. Authorities affirmed that security deployments have been increased to ensure the safety of spectators and teams during the high-stakes matches, including the Qualifier 1 scheduled for later this month.
