LUDHIANA, June 28 — A brutal daylight murder on Dhandhra Road near the Missing Link 2 Highway shook Ludhiana on Saturday, as Kuldeep Singh Mundiya — former personal assistant to Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and ex-MP Jagdev Singh Talwandi — was hacked to death with a sword while travelling in his car.

According to the police, unidentified assailants ambushed Mundiya’s vehicle and launched a deadly sword attack, killing him on the spot. The motive behind the killing remains unclear, but police say an intensive investigation is underway.

“The attack occurred while the victim was seated inside his vehicle,” said Avneet Kaur, Station House Officer (SHO) of Sadar Police Station. “We have taken the body for postmortem and are pursuing multiple leads.”

The murder, which took place in a bustling area, has sent shockwaves through the city, particularly in political circles due to Mundiya’s past association with a prominent SAD leader.

Police teams have begun reviewing CCTV footage from nearby cameras and are questioning witnesses to piece together the sequence of events and identify the perpetrators. “We are conducting raids at various locations to nab those responsible,” SHO Kaur added. “The attackers will be behind bars soon.”

A case of murder has been registered, and forensic teams have examined the crime scene. No arrests had been made till the time of filing this report.

The incident comes amid rising concerns over violent crimes in Punjab, particularly those involving political or personal rivalries.
