naseeruddin-shah said Bollywood is not depicting India correctly

25 January 2025- Bollywood veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah has once again created controversy with his statement. This time he has targeted Bollywood films. The actor has said that Bollywood films are not presenting the correct picture of India. Naseeruddin Shah believes that the most important function of cinema is to keep a record of its time, but the worrying thing is that if future generations will watch Bollywood films to understand today’s India, they will be very disappointed.

“I don’t think anyone’s thinking changes after watching a film….”

Naseeruddin Shah, who is famous for his strong acting in films like Nishant, Aakrosh, Sparsh and Masoom, said at the Kerala Literature Festival (KLF), ‘I think the current films are not presenting the correct picture of India. The most important purpose of serious cinema is not to bring change in the world. I don’t think anyone’s thinking changes after watching a film, no matter how great it is. Yes, it can help you raise some questions.’

Films that show the truth are banned

Naseeruddin said in a conversation with actress Parvati Thiruvothu, ‘If after 100 years people want to know what India was like in 2025 and they find a Bollywood film, I think it will be a big tragedy.’ He also talked about the difficulties that filmmakers face while making films that reflect the realities of the time. He said that films that try to show the truth often face a ban or struggle to get an audience.

Controversial statements by Naseeruddin Shah

Even before this, Naseeruddin Shah has given controversial statements many times. During the promotion of his film ‘Taj: Divided by Blood’, Naseeruddin, who played the role of Mughal emperor Akbar, made a statement that created controversy. He said, ‘The Mughals did not come to India to loot.” Naseeruddin Shah expressed concern over some Mughal rulers being made villains and questioned the declining recognition of their contribution to India. The comment sparked a flurry of discussions, with many opposing his views.
