LUCKNOW, Dec 19 — Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya defended the Assembly debate on ‘Vande Mataram’, saying it will contribute to the state’s development and that the government is ready to respond to opposition questions.
“This is the same great mantra whose proclamation will lead to a developed India, where the poor will become rich, farmers will prosper, women will be empowered, and the youth will have a bright future,” Maurya said. He added that discussing the anthem in the Legislature is a sound decision and expects cooperation from the opposition.
Maurya also addressed remarks by the opposition, stating that essential issues should be prioritised. Taking a jab at Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav, he said, “He shouldn’t be the one to impart any knowledge.”
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said the session will focus on public issues and legislative work for Uttar Pradesh’s development. “The government is fully prepared to discuss all issues, as was made clear at the all-party meeting,” he added.
The debate will coincide with the 150th anniversary of ‘Vande Mataram’ and the recognition of the anthem in the Constitution, marking its significance for the state and nation.
