Chandigarh, August 20: BJP MP Harbhajan Singh has found himself at the center of a social media storm after circulating an outdated video from 2018 that purported to show current neglect in a local government school. Activists and political rivals quickly flagged the posts after discovering the footage from Fatehgarh Sahib was years old.
The lawmaker asserted his position on social media despite mounting pushback.
“Don’t speak truth, otherwise you will also be labelled as paid troll,” Harbhajan declared.
In the recorded clip, a visiting activist documented poor sanitation facilities at the Jalhan village school premises. The activist declared that female students suffered significantly in the oppressive heat, limiting their water intake throughout the school day due to broken and unhygienic washrooms.
The ruling Aam Aadmi Party intensified its critique of the parliamentarian, noting this was the second time misleading media was shared on his official platform. Days earlier, a clip alleging a local drug crisis was confirmed by law enforcement to have been filmed in Rajasthan, prompting legal warnings from Finance Minister Harpal Cheema. The MP affirmed in response that technicalities over location do not change the underlying social challenges facing the region.
In contrast, another video shared on his account depicting villagers raising infrastructural and civic grievances directly with AAP representative Jeevan Sangowal in Ludhiana district has remained uncontradicted.
