Kapurthala, August 24: A routine queue line argument turned violent inside Kapurthala Central Jail, leaving four undertrial inmates injured and prompting jail administrators to initiate formal investigative procedures.
The confrontation involved two groups of prisoners, including two brothers from Jalandhar’s Buta Mandi neighborhood. Following the clash, prison staff managed the situation and transported the injured to Kapurthala Civil Hospital, where doctors administered care for minor injuries and dispatched official medical reports to law enforcement.
Account details provided by the involved undertrials shed light on their judicial status leading up to the incident. Lucky declared that he was arrested by the police last month in connection with a fight-related case, adding that as he was unable to secure bail, he was sent to jail. His brother Bobby affirmed that a criminal case was registered against him in 2025 and he was declared a proclaimed offender in that case, stating that he was later arrested by the police and sent to jail.
Correctional staff have launched a full review of internal monitoring protocols to determine how the argument escalated. Assistant Superintendent Satpal Singh stated that he was outside the jail when the incident occurred and that the matter had come to his attention. He maintained that an investigation was being conducted by senior officials and that appropriate action would follow based on the findings.
