Chandigarh, August 8: Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has formally approached Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria urging him to grant a 10-day parole to Jagtar Singh Hawara to visit his ailing mother.
Addressing the representation to Raj Bhavan, Chief Minister Mann asserted that the request is rooted in compassion given the declining health of Hawara’s mother due to age-related illnesses.
“This has resulted in deterioration of her health, which is a major cause of concern for everyone,” Chief Minister Mann declared in his written appeal to Governor Kataria.
The representation highlights that Hawara had approached the legal forum through CRWP No. 3868/2026 before the Punjab and Haryana High Court in Chandigarh to seek directions for his release on parole.
Chief Minister Mann maintained that considering the application would be in line with the High Court’s observations, which instructed that the plea for temporary release be duly evaluated by the competent authorities.
