Mohali, Oct 31: Tragedy struck Mamupur village near Gharuan when a late-night assault resulted in the death of 70-year-old resident Karnail Kaur. Law enforcement officials have taken her brother-in-law into custody in connection with the fatal incident occurring around 2 am on Friday.
The victim’s son, Hartej Singh, reported to the Kharar Sadar police that his uncle, 67-year-old Mohkam Singh, approached their home wielding an axe. While the main household remained indoors, Karnail Kaur stepped out from her separate quarters and was struck on the head.
Hartej promptly contacted Mohkam’s sons, who arrived at the scene, disarmed their father, and restrained him before handing him over to the responding police unit. Officials confirmed the recovery of the weapon from the site.
Mohkam Singh, who retired from service as a police havildar about seven years ago and manages cattle near the village fields, has been reportedly dealing with mental instability.
Addressing the incident, Sub-Inspector Balwinder Singh asserted that legal proceedings for murder have commenced against the arrested individual. Police officials declared that no underlying dispute or revenge angle has surfaced so far, with detailed investigation continuing to determine the exact circumstances.
