Faridkot, August 24: Neurologist Dr Rajinder Bansal has taken over as Vice-Chancellor of Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), Faridkot, with an agenda centred on improving medical education, strengthening research and enhancing healthcare delivery across institutions affiliated with the university.
Dr Bansal formally assumed charge on Monday after being appointed by the Governor of Punjab and Chancellor of BFUHS for a three-year term under Section 14(2) of the Baba Farid University Act, 1998.
University officials, faculty members, medical and hospital staff and representatives of local social organisations welcomed him on his arrival at the campus.
Speaking after taking charge, Dr Bansal thanked the authorities for entrusting him with the responsibility and said he would work with honesty, transparency and commitment.
“I am committed to working towards building an academic environment of excellence and ensuring that patients visiting institutions under BFUHS receive high-quality medical care,” he said.
Dr Bansal said his immediate priorities would include raising the quality of medical education, expanding research initiatives and improving administrative systems. He also stressed the need to strengthen healthcare services at medical colleges and hospitals affiliated with BFUHS.
His appointment brings more than two decades of clinical and academic experience to the university. Dr Bansal completed his MBBS and MD in Internal Medicine from DMC&H, Ludhiana, in 1989 and 1992 respectively. He subsequently completed his DM in Neurology from SGPGI, Lucknow, in 2000.
Over a career spanning more than 25 years, he has worked as Professor in the Department of Neurology at DMC&H. He has also served as Senior Consultant, Medical Director and Head of Neurosciences at RG Hospitals, Ludhiana.
Despite his administrative and academic responsibilities, Dr Bansal continues to maintain clinical practice in BRS Nagar, Ludhiana.
His appointment places an experienced clinician and academician at the helm of BFUHS, with the new Vice-Chancellor indicating that improving academic standards and patient care would be central to his tenure.
