Northern Railway Initiates Rotational Closures at Chandigarh Terminal

Phased 36-day traffic block causes train cancellations, rerouting, and platform adjustments during festival rush.

Chandigarh: Train movement at Chandigarh railway station faces significant schedule revisions following the initiation of a 36-day traffic block intended to accelerate terminal infrastructure upgrades. Running through mid-October, the phased closures allow engineering teams to dismantle legacy foot-over-bridges and install new overhead roof structures. The temporary restrictions will result in the cancellation of hundreds of scheduled trips, while several key long-distance services will terminate at neighboring stations such as Ambala Cantonment and Mohali.

To manage passenger flow and maintain essential connectivity, Northern Railway has divided platform closures into three successive 12-day blocks. Senior officials confirmed that temporary extra halts have been added at Mohali for selected long-distance routes to mitigate commuter inconvenience. Passengers are urged to check updated departure times and designated platform locations through official railway communication channels as structural work progresses.
